How I do Maps & Navigation

CycleOSM Overlay (Github| Online Map | For Seattle)

This is a very good overlay for "safe" + "priority" street routing on a bicycle

OsmAnd+ (Site | For Android | For iOS)

An app for navigation, replacing Google Maps.
Extremely configurable.

This is a customizeable router that works for bicycles, etc.
You can choose from a number of default profiles, or create your own.
I chose Trekking since it was pretty close. Probably I should make a custom one.

Why tho

Privacy Angle: Sick of Google slurping up all my data.
Political Angle: I think it's bogus to allow mega-corps to control every aspect of my life.
Practical Angle: I prefer to go for open-source & similar tooling where possible, because it's unlikely to randomly be destroyed fOr ThE iNvEsToRs.

I think the real deciding factor was "Google Maps can't produce reasonable cycling directions"

OSM On its own is passable, but routing kinda sucks, and it's hard to tell which roads are sane vs which are not.
CyclOSM fixes that, and to use CycleOSM on mobile w/ reasonable directions, I laneded on OsmAnd. (And I'd like them to continue development, so I got OsmAnd+)

Even with the CyclOSM overlay, OsmAnd routing for bicycles is pretty mid, so I'm trying out BRouter now. It seems nice!
