BakkesMod, and all other mods, are allowed if they follow the terms.
This means that gameplay-utility mods will generally not work in online play.
Rocket League does not officially support the use of third-party software. Using mods is allowed if they comply with our ToU and EULA. Mods cannot:
- Offer a competitive advantage in online play
- Expose unreleased features or content in Rocket League's code
- Interfere with, exploit, or abuse Rocket League service
Psyonix and Epic Games do not provide support for third-party mods, use them at your own risk.
(Reference 2025-10-09)
BakkesMod and the official BakkesMod plugin website, AFAIK both follow these requirements, and so anything you find thru official Bakkes channels should be permissible.
There are many features that people want but cannot be done due to technical restraints or requests by Psyonix. Bakkesmod will not support these features and does not allow any plugins to support them either.
(Reference 2025-10-09)
Even if it's not found on the official plugins site, it can still be permissible.
For instance, Bakkes has said they will never support does a Custom Quickchat mod, but Psyonix has communicated to the discord mods that the common use case for these is permissible (silly text / slight variations on existing ones). And it's in common use now. Ignoring that the "competitive advantage" argument is nonsense in the face of ubiquitous voice-chat use, which is now built in to the game.
You must restart the game to fully change the plugins.
Because the Bakkes code is injected into the game, it continues running as long as the game is active, whether or not you close the Bakkes window. The window is just there to make your modding experience slightly nicer.
The same thing applies to plugins.
Disabling the plugin in Bakkes may not stop its code from running. It's supposed to, but not all of them work properly. (Similarly, deleting the DLL will not stop the code from running. You must re-launch the game, because that is where the code is running from. This is the same for nearly every program on your computer. If the code is running, it's probably already been loaded into memory, and no longer cares what is on your hard drive.)
Inevitably, BakkesMod will crash your game.
Sometimes this will happen immediately.
Sometimes it will happen mid-match.
Sometimes it will happen when a certain event occurs.
It is usually not BakkesMod itself - it is more likely a questionably-coded plugin.
